During the Unity Intifada in 2021, Palestinians across historic Palestine rose up as one community to call for justice and liberation. The uprising manifested Palestinian unity in the face of fragmentation, as Palestinians in the homeland and the diaspora took the streets to resist Israel’s oppression across geographies.
In recent years Israel escalated its attack on Palestinian civil society, interrupting the ability to build collective spaces where radical discourse and organizing can thrive. The Unity Intifada, and other struggles in Palestine since then, manifested an inspiring model of people reclaiming political agency in organizing and setting the terms of the discourse around their lived reality.
Yet, new and emerging Palestinian initiatives/organizing spaces continue to face many challenges–in continuity, the ability to organize, and the sense of connectivity in a wider supportive ecosystem. In the US, the movement has grown to de-exceptionalize Palestine and build a more intersectional vision of justice across struggles, but faces similar challenges.
What is next for our collective organizing? How can we deepen the relationships we have built, learn from each other, grow our circles, and strengthen our common political visions? How can we claim power on a global scale? How will we resource our next steps?
