NY State is Subsidizing Illegal Israeli Settlements: We Say Not On Our Dime
We are proud to announce the launch of a major new campaign: Not on Our Dime!
Every year organizations based in New York State raise over $60 million dollars in tax-deductible funds for illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. Not on Our Dime aims to revoke the charitable status of these New York-based organizations and the violence they perpetrate against Palestinians.
This bill is the first of its kind in the country, and the first proactive pro-Palestine legislation to be proposed in New York State.
The extreme right-wing government in Israel has escalated violence against Palestinians and expedited settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, and we all have a responsibility to take concrete action where we can make an impact.
Groups like the Central Fund of Israel (CFI), Friends of Ir David, American Friends of Ateret Cohanim, and One Israel Fund continue to raise millions of dollars each year for illegal settlement construction in Palestine.
For example, CFI donated over $1 million to Regavim, a pro-settler group co-founded by Israel’s current Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, that has waged a years-long battle to displace Palestinians in towns like Susiya, Khan Al-Ahmar, and Masafer Yatta. Israeli settlers set Palestinian homes on fire, burn olive groves, and wreak havoc against Palestinians and their land.
The Not on our Dime! Campaign aims to expose these organizations and pressure our elected officials to revoke their charitable status. We can’t let New York-based charities be fronts for funding Israel’s apartheid project.
This legislation, introduced this week by New York Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani, would prohibit nonprofits from funding illegal settlements and fine organizations that knowingly continue to fund settler violence.
For those outside New York, please spread the word and stay tuned for more actions.
Together, we can stop settler organizations from using charities as fronts to support Israeli settler violence.
Please help us spread the word by retweeting and reposting on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram!
Your donation means we can expand our organizing for full liberation.
